Race report by Michael Sherman & Corey Broadstock
The Queensland Titles this year were held at the Logan City radio control car club, just south of Brisbane. With this track also hosting the Australian National titles later in the year, everyone in South - East Queensland and a few drivers from interstate were keen to hit the track. Numbers for this year were the best the event has seen for a few years now, spread over 4 classes (Novice 21.5, 17.5 blicky, Modified and Mini).

Stock Qualifying
Clinton Livingston (Xray) dominated through qualifying, taking out TQ in 4 of the 6 rounds, only beaten twice by Tim Weier . With 3 out of 6 rounds to count, Clinton was unchallenged for TQ, with Tim taking 2nd spot on the grid. 3rd on the grid was filled by Michael Sherman(Xray) just ahead of Alex Tyson.

1. Clinton Livingston (Xray T3 2012)

2. Tim Weier

Stock Finals

A1: Livingston got the perfect start he needed, putting a gap on Sherman in the opening lap, and never looked back, taking an easy win in the first A final, with Sherman finishing 2nd . Some early accidents in the rest of the field allowed Livingston and Sherman to pull away from the rest of the field with a fair gap back to Adam in third,Luke Harvey in 4th and Tim in 5th.

A2: A much closer start, with the top 4 putting a gap on the rest of the field. But once again Livingston was able to pull away a bit from Tim until Tim caught him up and came together which allowed Sherman and Laspina to go through ,laps later Tim cataches up to Laspina and by this time Sherman headed to take the win , with Tim 2nd, Laspina 3rd , Alex 4th and Tony 5th .

A3: A clean start for Tim for him to take off into the sunset which is what he did, but the race to watch was between Sherman and Young Laspina , from counts Sherman and Laspina exchanged positions about 8 times from the 3 minute mark to the 6 minute mark, it certainly kept the spectators entertained and on the edge of their seat, the second position was claimed and not taken from Sherman 2 laps prior to the end of the race with Laspina 3rd, Tony 4th and Alex 5th .

My Weekend - Michael Sherman
We arrived at the track on Friday morning for the offical practise day with some changes we had already made to the car before we hit the track. It didn't take long for the track to grip up nicely as alot of people had arrived early. The car started out very well and only got better as the day went on, and after some control practice heats I was sitting in 3rd for Saturdays qualifying.

On Saturday morning we were told we would be doing 5 rounds on 1 day, as there was some rain predicted for Sunday. As qualifying started it was clear a number of people were caught out by the changing track conditions, including myself. For the rest of the day we made small changes to see if we could get any more pace from the car, and just focused on doing consistent runs. After the 5 rounds I was sitting in 3rd, 1 point behind 2nd on the grid so I knew I had to do a good run on Sundays final qualifier to move up on the grid.

I finished Sundays qualifer in 3rd but wasn't enough to move up, so I was sitting in 3rd spot on the grid for the finals. In the first final I was tagged from behind at turn 2 which left me to be marshalled, and for the opening laps I was hit a numbers of other times. I decided to keep on going and after making a number of passes I finished the race in 2nd. The second final I was hit again and spun around, but was able to recover back into 4th spot on the first lap. After the front runners came togetherit allowed me to come through with the win. For the last final we had made a number of changes to the car trying to regain some lap speed. Feeling more confident with the car I was able to move up to 2nd which is where I stayed for the entire race. So there for I the took the win of the Queensland State tiles for 2012 with ( XRAY).

In the end it was a very good weekend, with 2 out of the top 4 cars in modified being Xrays and Jason Dorn taking out the Mod class. Things are looking good for the Xray team at the nationals in 2 months time, on this very track.

Modified Finals

A1:
Dorn got the perfect start he needed, putting a gap on Nicholson in the opening lap, and never looked back, taking an easy win in the first A final. Some early pressure from Atack left Nicholson defending, but was able to pull out a small lead to finish in 2nd, with Atack in 3rd. Sturdy came home in 4th with Broadstock having a rough start in 5th.

A2: A much closer start, with the top 3 putting a gap on the rest of the field. But once again Dorn was able to pull a gap and win the second race, and taking out the Modified title. Nicholson and Atack came home in 2nd and 3rd with Broadstock in 4th and Peter Dooley having a better start in 5th.

A3: A clean start for Dorn and Nicholson but Atack fell back early, allowing Broadstock is slip into 3rd on the opening lap . The battle for the lead this time was much closer then all of the finals, with a mistake from Dorn letting Nicholson to the lead. An incident between the two cars let Broadstock to the lead with 2 laps to go, and taking out the final race of the day, with Dorn in 2nd and Nicholson in 3rd. Atack was able to recover from a bad start in 4th with Sturdy in 5th.

My Weekend - Corey Broadstock
We arrived at the track on Friday morning for the offical practise day and after some control practise heats I was sitting in 2nd for Saturdays qualifying.

I droped over half a second in outright lap speed, and very confused as we had made no changes to the car from practise. For the rest of the day we made small changes to see if we could get any more pace from the car, and just focused on doing consistent runs. After the 5 rounds I was sitting in 4th, 1 point behind 3rd on the grid so I knew I had to do a good run on Sundays final qualifier to move up on the grid.

I finished Sundays qualifer in 2nd but wasn't enough to move up, so I was sitting in 4th spot on the grid for the finals. In the first final I was tagged from behind at turn 2 which left me to be marshalled, and for the opening laps I was hit a numbers of other times. I decided to keep on going and after making a number of passes I finished the race in 5th. The second final I was hit again and spun around, but was able to recover back into 4th spot on the first lap. After that I was just left to finish the race as the front runners were too far ahead at that point. For the last final we had made a number of changes to the car trying to regain some lap speed. Feeling more confident with the car I was able to move up to 3rd in the opening lap and follow the leaders. A coming together between the two let me move into the lead, and was able to hold it to the finish.

In the end it was a very good weekend, with 3 out of the top 4 cars in modified being Xrays and Michael Sherman taking out the stock class. Things are looking good for the Xray team at the nationals in 2 months time, on this very track.
